The Cataloging Department has set aside classification and cutter numbers for its own use for certain collections and some subject areas. They are unique to the UCLA Library System.
These reserved or modified call numbers are provided with guide cards in the shelf list.
Furthermore, they are annotated in the Department's Gale cumulations of the Library of Congress Classification Schedules. The procedure of annotating is repeated each year in the annual Gale cumulations.
Any changes to this list can be made only in consultation with the Department Head, the person responsible for maintaining the Classification Schedules and/or Special Collections catalogers.

LC puts literary bibliographies into the Z schedule. UCLA PUTS LITERARY BIBLIOGRAPHIES WITH INDIVIDUAL AUTHORS. We have stamped each respective page in the Z schedule with "do not use for lit. bib." and added these bibliography numbers to the new literature tables for authors with more than one classification or cutter number.
