An unknown German calligrapher’s advertisement sheet dated 1568, with elaborate pen scrolls brushed in gold, and the Lord’s Prayer in German in a space the size of a nickel in the lower left-hand corner. Calligraphy continued long after print, particularly for the writing of documents that requested embellishment to witness the importance of their contents.
