LAUC-LA Definition of Mentoring*:
Mentoring is a developmental partnership through which one person shares knowledge, skills, information and perspective to foster the personal and professional growth of someone else.
“Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction.” - John C. Crosby
*Based on: http://cmcismentorprogram.wordpress.com/mentoring-program-manual/definition-of-mentoring

How does LAUC-LA differentiate a Buddy relationship from a Mentor relationship?
- The LAUC-LA Buddy model is an open-ended, one-on-one relationship between members to assist librarians acclimate and explore social venues within the UCLA Library and the Los Angeles area as desired.
- It relies on a pool of volunteers committed to assisting a ‘Buddy’ for up to 6 months.
- The Buddy program will be offered as an option to new UCLA librarians, but open to all members who wish to partake.
- Mentors are colleagues within the UCLA Library system who can assist others with professional growth.
- It is an informal, self-initiated relationship which develops around a perceived professional need or interest and continues until the need or interest is satisfied.
