The recipient of this award must embody one or more of the following qualities: creativity, innovation, courage, leadership, or scholarship.

The LAUC-LA Librarian of the Year Award is given for a specific contribution made during the prior twelve to eighteen months while the librarian is employed at UCLA rather than for his/her overall career. A certificate of recognition is presented to the award recipient at the annual LAUC-LA Spring Assembly at UCLA.

All librarians appointed within the Librarian Series and members of LAUC-LA, employed at least fifty percent time or more are eligible for the award.
