Re: Mid-Year Report 2001/2002

The members of the Committee on Professional Governance for 2001-2002 are Ruby Gutierrez, Eli Chammou, David Gilbert, Suzanne Shellaby, and Keri Botello

During the first half of the year, the committee was given the charge of identifying issues and developing a set of questions regarding hires within/outside the librarian series (in particular, the CDL hires). Some of the questions that the committee will be examining during the year are: what is happening at other UC campuses in regard to hiring professionals outside the librarian series, how does the hiring tendency affect salary equity within the organization, and how do professionals inside and outside of the librarian series compare in terms of performance evaluation cycles, salary ranges, and equity with other professionals.

The committee has met to discuss strategies on how to proceed with the charge and have started initial research into this matter. Our next stop will be to continue with move in-depth information gathering from the various UC campuses and CDL.
