Mildred Mathias Botanical Gardens Docent-led Tour Tuesday, April 12, 11 a.m.-noon

With more than 5,000 species of plants on eight acres, this primarily tropical and subtropical garden is one of the finest in the area. Among its achievements, it can boast growing vegetation like the eucalyptus, which has since become a Southern California staple.

Meeting place: MEMBG driveway on South Tiverton directly across from the Factor Building.

Rain policy: In the event of rain, the tour will be canceled and may be rescheduled.

Tour etiquette: To ensure that everyone hears the docent, please keep extraneous talking to a minimum. Please no cell phones.

Tour description: Docents provide a general tour of the garden, its history and an overview of pertinent botanical information. The garden does not have drinking fountains or bathroom facilities. Please bring your own drinking water; you may use the bathroom facilities in the nearby Medical Center. In addition, wear sturdy walking shoes. After the tour, we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch in the garden, so for those interested, make sure to bring a sack lunch with you.

The regular tour does involve walking on uneven surfaces and climbing stairs. If you have a special needs requirement, please let us know.
