Changes in the document "Criteria for Appointment, Promotion, and Advancement in the Librarian Series" are before the LAUC statewide assembly. Position Paper 1 revises the Criteria's language in relation to the Distinguished Step. We of LAUC-LA need to prepare our representatives to the statewide meeting in San Diego on May 30 for voting on Position Paper 1.

As a first step, the Committee on Professional Governance is sponsoring a lunch with LAUC on April 30, "Capstone or Millstone? Considering the Distinguished Step". A few of your colleagues will present their viewpoint on the Distinguished Step to foster discussion among the LAUC-LA membership on this important issue. These discussions will help to prepare the entire LAUC-LA membership for a decision on Position Paper 1 at the LA membership meeting on May 15th.
