Lunch With LAUC-LA

Wednesday, February 26th, 1-2 pm, Faculty Conference Room (2448), Law School Building

"The UCLA Academic Calendar Revision Proposal: Should LAUC-LA be concerned?"

Please join the LAUC-LA Library Plans & Policies Committee as we discuss the proposal to revise the UCLA Academic Calendar from quarter to semester system, and the impact such a revision would have on the Library.

We hope to discuss the following issues, but please bring your own thoughts, concerns, etc., to the lunch:

  • How would library operations be affected, including, reference services, bibliographic instruction, interlibrary loan, reserves, loan periods, etc.?
  • What would the impact be on information literacy initiatives?
  • How would the personal lives of Librarians be affected, e.g., dependent care concerns, vacations, etc.?
  • What would the impact be on professional development, e.g., attending conferences, research projects, etc.?
  • What type of representation should the Library have on a campus-wide team coordinating the transition from quarters to semesters?
  • How can the Library be involved in the report's recommendation for curriculum review? Note: This recommendation was was made regardless of whether or not the calendar is revised.

Please consult the Fact Sheet compiled for LAUC-LA.

Further background information on the proposal is at <http://www.senate.ucla.edu/calendar/> which includes links to the Joint Academic Senate/Administration Committee's 59-page "Report to Study the UCLA Academic Calendar." Comments from Library administration appear on pp. 44-46 of Section 7, "Operational and Resource Issues."

Feel free to bring your lunch...
