The meeting was called to order at 2:12 p.m.

- INTRODUCTION OF 2001/2002 LAUC-LA
EXECUTIVE BOARD AND COMMITTEE CHAIRS
Maureen Russell, LAUC-LA Chair for 2001/2002,
introduced the Board and Committee chairs:

- PRESENTATION BY LAUC PRESIDENT
Debbie Murphy described current LAUC activities and shared her aspirations
for the year. Notable among the LAUC activities for the coming year:
- UL meeting: Murphy recently attended
a meeting of the University of California University Librarians,
as LAUC liaison. She hopes to continue the discussion with ULs begun
at that meeting.
- CDL involvement: Murphy has been
involved in the interviews for CDL director. Once a position has
been filled, she will invite the new CDL director to come to the
LAUC assembly.
- By-law revision: The LAUC By-laws
have been revised and are posted to the LAUC web site
- Reports of interest to LAUC members:
Andrea Duda is revising the LAUC web site to include links to reports
from HOTS, SOPAG, and other UC committees.
- Transition to new Librarian Series:
The barrier steps will be under discussion this year
- LAUC budget: LAUC has guaranteed
funds for Research and Development.
Following her presentation, Murphy
took questions from the audience. Maureen Russell thanked Murphy for
the presentation.
- ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Committee on Research and
Professional Development:
Adrienne Adan reminded the membership of an upcoming Sept. 7 deadline
for applications for local mini-grants. She expressed concern about
the calendar for submission of statewide grant and local mini-grant
proposals. This spring, Adan hopes to organize a grants workshop
for LAUC members.
- Peer Review Documentation
Workshop Committee:
Keri Botello announced two workshops. The first, a Peer Review
Workshop, will be held Dec. 11, 1-4 at GSEIS. The second, a Review
Initiators' Workshop, will be held Dec. 18 in the YRL ACR.

LAUC-LA letter on ERDb/LAUC-LA's
Advisory Role:
Elaine Adams described how the letter to Gloria Werner was developed
and how it led to a LAUC Executive Board meeting with Gloria Werner
on October 29th. Maureen Russell read a prepared statement
from Gloria Werner; then she opened the floor to discussion. Members
of the audience commented on the process followed for ERDb, reacted
to the prepared statement, and offered suggestions for improvement.

LAUC Statewide Spring Assembly:
The LAUC Statewide Spring Assembly for 2002 will be held at UCLA
- INTRODUCTION OF NEW LIBRARIANS
Gloria Werner opened this segment of the LAUC fall meeting. Then
unit heads introduced new and visiting librarians in their departments.
- ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 3:40 p.m.; a reception for new librarians
followed.
